"The Arnold Arboretum has a gorgeous collection of lilacs, almost 400 plants in 200 varieties. Every May it celebrates 'Lilac Sunday' at the peak of the season. The variety of lilacs and richness of purples caught my attention in this particular view of the Arboretum. I especially like the juicy purples in the foreground and how variations of the colour reach into the background. The picture was made the day after Lilac Sunday, after the crowds had gone. It was late in the afternoon, the sun was in and out, and the occasional breeze carried the fragrant lilac scent through the air. It was lovely to be there – a quintessential spring moment in New England."
