"I have always been fascinated with dragonflies and damselflies and spend time photographing them every year. In this instance, I was inspired by the way they all settled on the reeds in the same direction due to the gentle breeze. I set up my tripod and seat and waited. Most of the time there were so many insects on the reeds that they looked untidy. But after a wait of a couple of hours I noticed these four, symetrically positioned on this reed. The top two damselflies are common blues (Enallagma cyathigerum) the lower two are blue-tailed damselflies (Ischnura elegans).
As with many nature subjects, patience was the key with this shot. I carry a fold-up seat on my camera bag for such occasions and used this to sit and wait for the right moment."
