These images portray the last stage in the life cycle of the common landscape plant, the hosta. I was struck by their beauty, even in death. Beauty in the garden is sometimes discovered when you least expect it. I had made some successful images of hostas between 2004 and 2007, so I set the goal of carrying out a complete study of them in 2008. I was always attracted to their shapes and the design possibilities their leaves suggested. When autumn came and the frost struck the plants, I checked them every day. I was looking for the right amount of wilting and colour. Eventually, at the beginning of November, they were perfect. Over the next few days I photographed them in various locations and states of degradation.
