Long tailed tit (Aegithalos caudatus). Common member of tit family that often visit gardens in flocks during the winter.
I wanted to create an atmospheric image that depicted a typical garden visitor braving extreme conditions. Rather than just photograph the snowy backdrop, I wanted to record the snowflakes falling around the bird to convey the mood.
This image was photographed at my own feeding station. During a period of heavy snowfall, I got in my hide in order to capture this wintry image. With a neutral background, I chose a brightly coloured dogwood stem to add a splash of colour, and used a rating of ISO 400 to obtain a fast shutter speed.
