This is a shot of my father walking away carrying an armful of freshly-cut Cornus sanguinea 'Midwinter Fire' in early March. It’s a task he does every year in late winter, to maintain the intense fiery colours for the following year and to limit the size of the shrub. It was one image from a set of practical shots showing how to prune dogwoods. I was trying to capture a sense of movement and activity, hence the very shallow depth of field which also focuses the eye on the main subject.
